Additional Information

A college degree isn't required to be a telephone operator. Most training is done by telephone companies or by company personnel. Operators usually receive one to three weeks of classroom instruction. After that, the rest is covered on the job.

PBX operators (those who work the telephone systems in corporate, government or industrial settings) usually have a shorter training period than operators employed by telephone companies. Most PBX telephone operators receive training by experienced personnel in an informal atmosphere.
