Beyond High School

Here's a list of programs that you should consider if you're interested in this career:

Education Level

Education training and experience are required at different levels for success in different occupations.

Bachelor's degree

Fire protection engineers typically need a bachelor's degree, typically in safety or in an engineering discipline. Some employers prefer to hire candidates who have experience, so cooperative-education programs may be beneficial.

Extra Requirements

Fire protection engineers are not required to be licensed at the entry level. Experienced engineers may obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license, which allows them to oversee the work of other engineers, sign off on projects, and provide services directly to the public. Although certification is not required, some engineers choose to earn a professional credential.
