The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) is actively recruiting patent examiners and expects this trend to continue. Patent examiner Leo Boudreau agrees. "The future looks very bright for patent examiners and other practitioners in the field of intellectual property," he says.

Salaries range from $27,000 for entry-level workers to over $100,000 for experienced examiners. This is according to the U.S. PTO. Patent agent Leonard Heyman says someone with four or five years of experience can earn $60,000 per year.
